A USB-C connector can fit without carrying video. A screen can display a picture without charging the laptop. We check these separately so a buying recommendation does not silently assume either one.
For native USB-C video, the laptop must have a documented DisplayPort Alt Mode or compatible Thunderbolt output, and the cable must support video. All four selected monitors accept native USB-C video, but the correct input port matters. The Plugable model has separate peripheral ports that are not the laptop video input.
For an HDMI-only source, only the ASUS MB169CK and ViewSonic VA1655 have a native input in this comparison. Both use mini-HDMI and require separate USB power. An ordinary USB-C-to-HDMI cable is directional. It does not turn a laptop HDMI output into USB-C video for a USB-C-only screen.
Choosing an external supply tells the checker one is available. It does not certify its voltage profiles or capacity. Our positive wording is limited to documented connection inputs. Check the exact monitor manual and power supply before buying. A laptop-powered arrangement remains possible even when the checker asks for more information.
We compare the requested charging target with published maximum outputs. Plugable documents up to 85W from a 100W input, Lenovo up to 65W, and ViewSonic up to 60W. ASUS charge-through is unknown in the sources consulted. No result promises the negotiated power a particular laptop will receive.
For example, a 65W target makes the ViewSonic's advertised 60W insufficient for that stated target. This does not mean the display stops working. It means keeping the laptop charger may be necessary. At a 90W target, none of these documented maximums qualifies.
